Chevy lovers in the market for a mid-size pickup truck get ready; production of the all-new global Chevrolet Colorado is headed to the U.S. Prompted by a successful launch in Thailand, the automaker will manufacture a version of the Colorado specifically for the American market.

In order to launch the truck with the best results in Thailand, Chevy engineers immersed themselves in Thai culture, absorbing how its people travel, the conditions under which they live and what exactly they need from their vehicle. Global vehicle line executive, Brad Merkel said that the Chevrolet team will conduct similar research prior to releasing the Colorado variant here in the U.S. Aside from deeply-investigated features, the truck holds another key to high sales: little competition. Upon entrance into the American auto market, it will be one of only a few small to mid-sized pickups available.

"The new Chevrolet Colorado is generating a lot of excitement as we begin its launch in Thailand," VP of Global Marketing and Strategy Chris Perry said. "We think the design, capability and fuel efficiency of the new Colorado will make it attractive to U.S. customers."¹

While Jeff D'Ambrosio Chevrolet has not yet received word on the U.S-bound Colorado's drivetrain, we can tell you that it takes cues from a fresh, midsize truck structure created by GM's global product development organization. Thailand's version of the Chevrolet Colorado, for example, is available in 2WD and 4WD regular, extended-cab and crew cab variations with either a gasoline or diesel engine. In addition, the 2.5L and 2.8L turbo diesel engines are fixed to yield broad torque bands ideal for cargo and towing capability.
