Within our society, the CO2 emissions rate has gone up while the amount of natural forestation has gone down. It doesn't take a mathematician to recognize that the product of this equation is extremely negative. Fortunately, Chevrolet is working to balance the ratio. What's more, they're doing it in a very clever way.
Our favorite automaker recently teamed up with The National Forest Foundation and launched a new Facebook application that allows users to post virtual trees to their pages. For every virtual tree that is "posted," a real one will be planted. Locations for the trees are based off a list of forests in greatest need of support. Through the initiative, Chevrolet plans on introducing up to 175,000 trees into the environment that will safely absorb carbon dioxide from our atmosphere for here on out.
Now, you're probably wondering why Chevy doesn't plant the trees immediately. Why wait for social media users to get their act together and post? Well, there is more to the green effort than just repopulating our nation's forest. Through initiatives like this, Chevrolet and the National Forest Foundation hope to spread awareness as well.
